The posters that the WPA/FAP artists created to promote FAP activities represent some of their most accomplished work. These posters, after all, reflect the pride that the artists felt in their special field of endeavor.
The FAPs activities were designed not merely to employ artists but to expand the audience for art. Thus, for example, at a time when the majority of Americans had never seen an oil painting or visited a museum, WPA/FAP Community Art Centers in 103 cities allowed eight million people to view works of art and attend studio classes. The WPA/FAP artists created posters to inform the public of these opportunities.
